Biography

“Investment planning need not be complicated.”

Ben Sherwood has worked in the financial services industry since 1987. He is a partner in the chartered accountancy firm Hillier Hopkins LLP where he advises a select group of clients on both investment consultancy and tax planning.

Ben’s specialism is dealing with the particular issues faced by clients between the ages of 55 and 100. He is fascinated by the investment world and works with experts who can help with taxation and other financial matters.

Ben is both a Chartered Financial Planner and a Certified Financial Planner.

He strongly believes that investment planning need not be complicated. His primary role is as a sounding board, devil’s advocate and experienced guide.

I enjoy my work hugely.

Ben is married to Wendy and has a son, Luke. Other than family and work Ben’s key interest is music. Although fond of many genres he is still an aspiring jazz pianist.

“I played in many different orchestras and bands as I grew up and now get most pleasure from playing with my friends [ The Jazz Goats ] in an environment where we can have fun and enjoy a glass of wine.”

“I can just about get to an analogy between getting a decent sound from a jazz band and wealth management. They have many similarities.

  • They are both great fun to do.
  • They involve the melding together of many different ingredients, some of which may not on first impressions work well together. Even when all parties involved are charming and lovely, there are still goal congruence issues.
  • By its very nature, the beast is perpetually unpredictable, and we have to plan knowing that that is the case.
  • The job is never done.”
